Key takeaways

  • Explore the whole complex before committing to the final confrontation The Infirmary, Hatchery, Classroom and Trade Post contain separate quests, characters and rewards.
  • Bring Lae’zel if possible Her presence changes conversations, approval, quest progression and the way the githyanki treat the party.
  • The Zaith’isk is not a straightforward cure Its outcome can produce permanent penalties or the permanent Awakened benefit, depending on who enters and which choices are made.
  • The Blood of Lathander is in the Secret Chamber, not the main crèche Obtain the Dawnmaster’s Crest in Rosymorn Monastery if you want the safest conclusion to that quest.
  • Vlaakith’s scene can cause an immediate game over if handled recklessly Do not casually challenge her authority during the Planecaster sequence.
  • Destroying the crèche changes what remains available If the monastery is destroyed before the Infirmary sequence, the Zaith’isk is destroyed with it.

About this guide

Spoiler warning: This guide covers major Act One story developments involving Lae’zel, Vlaakith, the Astral Prism, the Blood of Lathander, the githyanki egg and the possible destruction of the crèche.

Overview

Crèche Y’llek is a githyanki military nursery and stronghold beneath the ruined Rosymorn Monastery in the Mountain Pass. It is the destination Lae’zel identifies as the supposed cure for the party’s illithid parasites, but it is also a functioning githyanki base, training centre, hatchery, supply post and command structure.

The crèche is not just the central corridor and infirmary. Its playable scope includes the main underground complex, the Hatchery, Infirmary, Classroom, Trade Post, Captain’s Quarters and Inquisitor’s Chamber. Two connected areas deserve separate treatment: the Secret Chamber, which contains the Blood of Lathander, and the Astral Plane, reached through the Planecaster during the crèche’s main storyline. The ruined monastery above is a neighbouring location rather than part of Crèche Y’llek itself.

Connected but separate locations

Rosymorn Monastery

Rosymorn Monastery is the ruined Lathanderian complex above the crèche. It contains the Dawnmaster’s Memorial, the stained-glass weapon puzzle and the Dawnmaster’s Crest. The crest is the safest way to retrieve the Blood of Lathander from the Secret Chamber.

Secret Chamber

The Secret Chamber is a hidden Lathanderian relic room accessed from the Inquisitor’s Chamber. It contains the Blood of Lathander and is protected by statues, barriers and traps. It is associated with Crèche Y’llek geographically, but it was built by the monastery’s former inhabitants and was not known to the githyanki occupying the crèche.

Astral Plane

The Astral Plane section is a story area reached through the Planecaster. It contains the Dream Guardian sequence and advances the plot concerning the Astral Prism, Vlaakith and Prince Orpheus. It is not a free-roaming extension of the crèche.

---

The githyanki took the monastery from its Lathanderian inhabitants and established Crèche Y’llek underneath it. A githyanki slate found in the monastery records the crèche’s establishment. The result is a striking contrast between the old religious architecture of Lathander and the militarised githyanki installation below it.

The crèche is therefore both a settlement and a military institution. The hierarchy is divided between ordinary warriors, raiders, ardents, youths, the commander Kith’rak Therezzyn, and the visiting inquisitor Ch’r’ai W’wargaz. Tension between Therezzyn and W’wargaz drives much of the location’s internal conflict.

---

Main route

The monastery has more than one way into its lower sections. The important point is that the crèche is reached through the basement rather than by entering one of the ruined monastery’s obvious upper doors.

The ordinary route is

  1. 01
Travel to the Mountain Pass and reach Rosymorn Monastery Trail.
  2. 02
    Explore Rosymorn Monastery.
  3. 03
Descend through the monastery’s lower areas.
  4. 04
    Find the Monastery Basement.
  5. 05
Follow the underground route to the crèche entrance.
  6. 06
Activate the Crèche Y’llek waypoint when you reach the main complex.

Practical entry advice

---

The main crèche is a compact underground complex built around a central corridor and several side rooms. The main route links the entrance, the Infirmary, Hatchery, Classroom, Trade Post and Captain’s Quarters before reaching the Inquisitor’s Chamber.

A portrait of Vlaakith marks the western junction near the Hatchery and Infirmary. It is interactive and can produce a small character moment involving the youth Vis’kiir. The main corridor is patrolled by githyanki warriors and raiders, so movement is not entirely passive even before the major fights begin.

Main entrance and corridor

The entrance hall is the first githyanki-controlled section. It establishes the crèche’s military character through armed guards, patrols and strict treatment of outsiders.

The central corridor branches towards the Infirmary and Hatchery on one side, while the Classroom and Trade Post occupy other sections of the complex. The Captain’s Quarters and Inquisitor’s Chamber lie beyond the more public areas.

Directory: Main entrance and corridor

The named NPC list above includes characters identified in the main entrance and corridor area. Ellyka is a story-associated deceased character rather than a living resident encountered in the crèche.

Infirmary

The Infirmary is the western medical section of the crèche and the most important early destination for the Find the Githyanki Crèche objective. It is overseen by Ghustil Stornugoss, who operates the Zaith’isk, a machine intended to extract the parasite.

The Infirmary is also where the game tests the party’s assumptions about githyanki “purification”. The procedure can be attempted by the player character or Lae’zel. The outcome depends on dialogue choices, saving throws and whether the character resists or embraces the machine’s demands.

The Zaith’isk can impose permanent ability-score penalties after failed saving throws. If the player character undergoes the procedure, it is also possible to obtain the permanent Awakened benefit through the appropriate choices or successful resistance. If Lae’zel enters, she can suffer the same danger, although consuming a tadpole can remove the penalties.

The Infirmary also contains three Mind Flayer Parasite Specimens in the rear area. These are fixed story-related loot rather than random drops.

Infirmary walkthrough

  1. 01
Speak to Ghustil Stornugoss and examine the Zaith’isk.
  2. 02
Decide whether the player character or Lae’zel enters.
  3. 03
Make the required saving throws and choose dialogue options carefully.
  4. 04
Do not assume that a successful extraction will occur even after passing the tests.
  5. 05
Search the rear desks for the three Mind Flayer Parasite Specimens.
  6. 06
Be prepared for the Infirmary to become hostile if Stornugoss believes the procedure failed or if the party attempts to force its way out.
  7. 07
If the whole crèche has already been destroyed, the Zaith’isk may no longer be available.

Hatchery

The Hatchery lies north-west of the main crèche and contains a githyanki egg in a hazardous environment of acidic pools and traps. It is the central location for Steal a Githyanki Egg.

The egg can be obtained through several broad approaches. The party can steal it, negotiate with the caretaker or fight their way through the hatchery. The best option depends on whether the player wants to preserve the hatchery’s inhabitants and how they intend to handle Lady Esther later.

The Hatchery is also useful for understanding the crèche’s attitude towards children. Githyanki youths are trained for survival and martial discipline rather than protected from danger in the way many surface cultures would expect.

Hatchery walkthrough

The egg is a fixed quest item, not a random hatchery drop.

Hatchery walkthrough

  1. 01
Enter from the main corridor and inspect the patrol routes.
  2. 02
Avoid stepping into acid pools unless the party is prepared for environmental damage.
  3. 03
Use jumping, misty movement or careful positioning to reach safe platforms.
  4. 04
Speak to Varsh Ko’kuu before deciding whether to steal the egg.
  5. 05
If taking the egg, plan the escape route before beginning the theft.
  6. 06
Keep the egg safe if you intend to deliver it to Lady Esther or pursue the later consequences of that quest.

Classroom

The Classroom is the training area for githyanki youths. The party can witness a youth being disciplined by an instructor, creating one of the clearest examples of the crèche’s harsh educational culture.

The scene can be approached in different ways. Players may intervene, remain silent or use dialogue options shaped by race, class and companion presence. The classroom is therefore more than scenery: it is a small role-playing encounter that illustrates how the crèche turns children into soldiers.

Directory: Classroom

The classroom youths are part of the crèche’s resident population. They are not the same as the patrols or visitors in the command areas.

Trade Post

The Trade Post is the crèche’s principal merchant area. A’jak’nir Jeera, the quartermistress, sells githyanki weapons, armour and useful equipment.

The exact availability of some stock can depend on character level and game state. The Gloves of Dexterity are sold by Jeera and set the wearer’s Dexterity to 18 while also increasing attack rolls by 1.

Jeera’s inventory includes several particularly attractive items

Captain’s Quarters

The Captain’s Quarters are controlled by Kith’rak Therezzyn, the commander of Crèche Y’llek. Therezzyn is responsible for the crèche’s military authority and is closely tied to the quest concerning the stolen or hidden artefact.

The key conversation here concerns the Astral Prism. If the party refuses to cooperate or mishandles the discussion, the room can become hostile. If the party complies, Therezzyn directs events towards the Inquisitor’s Chamber.

There is also a Githyanki Barrier Disruptor near the northern exit. It is one of the crèche’s notable interactive objects.

Some entries are story-associated or deceased rather than ordinary active residents.

Inquisitor’s Chamber

The Inquisitor’s Chamber is the political and military centre of the crèche. Ch’r’ai W’wargaz is a recently arrived inquisitor of Vlaakith, and his presence creates tension with Kith’rak Therezzyn.

The chamber is the destination for The Githyanki Warrior and Discover the Artefact’s Secrets. W’wargaz demands information about the Astral Prism and can become a major combat encounter. Lae’zel’s personal storyline is deeply affected by what happens here.

The chamber also contains the Planecaster used to reach the Astral Plane. After the confrontation with W’wargaz, Vlaakith appears through a massive projection and orders the party to enter the Prism and kill its inhabitant.

Find the Githyanki Crèche

This is the main crèche objective attached to the party’s search for a cure. The quest directs the party to the Infirmary and the Zaith’isk, then continues through the consequences of the supposed purification procedure.

The important point is that the quest does not end simply because the party reaches the crèche. It is tied to Lae’zel’s beliefs, Ghustil Stornugoss’s experiment and the wider revelation that the githyanki cure is not what Lae’zel expects.

The Githyanki Warrior

Lae’zel’s personal quest brings the party through the crèche’s social and military hierarchy. It connects the entrance, Infirmary, Captain’s Quarters and Inquisitor’s Chamber.

Bring Lae’zel if you want to see the fullest version of the quest. Her presence changes conversations and makes the conflict with Vlaakith more personal.

Discover the Artefact’s Secrets

This quest concerns the Astral Prism and the githyanki interest in the artefact. The party’s progress through Therezzyn and W’wargaz leads directly to the Planecaster and Astral Plane sequence.

Steal a Githyanki Egg

The Hatchery contains the egg required for this quest. You can resolve the situation through stealth, dialogue or combat. The decision has consequences beyond the crèche, particularly if the egg is later given to Lady Esther.

Find the Blood of Lathander

The Blood of Lathander is not in the ordinary githyanki rooms. It is in the Secret Chamber, reached through the Inquisitor’s Chamber after solving the Lathanderian statue puzzle or bypassing the relevant barrier.

If the Blood is taken without the crest, a four-turn escape or sabotage sequence begins. The party must escape or destroy the four Lathander Solar Machines. If the machines are not dealt with in time, the monastery and crèche can be destroyed.

---

The Secret Chamber is reached from a western alcove of the Inquisitor’s Chamber. Two Lathander statues must be correctly positioned to open the route. An alternative method involves destroying an energy source beneath the relevant pedestal, which can alter or remove the barrier.

The Blood of Lathander grants a powerful light-based weapon with a Sunbeam-related action and defensive effects. It is one of the most significant Act One rewards associated with the Mountain Pass.

Secret Chamber directory

---

The Act One Astral Plane is accessed through the Planecaster in the Inquisitor’s Chamber. It is not a general exploration region and should be treated as a story instance.

The party is asked to enter the Prism and kill the being inside. The Dream Guardian’s dialogue changes depending on what the party has learned and how the conversation with Vlaakith was handled.

The safest approach is

  1. 01
    Explore Rosymorn Monastery first.
  2. 02
Complete the Dawnmaster’s Memorial weapon puzzle.
  3. 03
    Obtain the Dawnmaster’s Crest.
  4. 04
Enter the Secret Chamber from the Inquisitor’s Chamber.
  5. 05
Solve or bypass the statue and energy-source obstacles.
  6. 06
Place the Dawnmaster’s Crest in the altar before taking the mace.
  7. 07
Claim the Blood of Lathander without triggering the monastery’s destruction sequence.

Vlaakith warning

Vlaakith’s projection appears after the party presents the artefact to W’wargaz or defeats him. She demands obedience and orders the party into the Prism.

Do not deliberately antagonise her. Defying her in specific ways, including directly asking her to kill the being herself or repeatedly treating her with disrespect, can result in an instant game over through her Wish spell.

---

Githyanki residents

Most named characters inside the crèche belong to its permanent or semi-permanent population:

The youths, classroom figures and hatchery staff should be distinguished from the high-ranking visitors associated with the central plot.

Faction structure

The crèche is loyal to Vlaakith, but internal authority is divided:

The tension between Therezzyn and W’wargaz is one of the location’s defining political features.

---

Githyanki patrols

Patrols move through the main corridor and can complicate exploration. Warrior Yr’rk and Raider Ahu’u’rag follow routes around the Infirmary, Hatchery and Captain’s Quarters. Ahu’u’rag’s behaviour changes near the waypoint and Captain’s Quarters, so the patrol is not entirely static.

Potential hostile groups

Depending on dialogue choices and progression, the party may fight:

The entire complex does not necessarily become hostile at the same moment. A confrontation in the Infirmary can remain local, while later political decisions can spread hostility through the crèche.

Creatures

Gremishkas are associated with Rosymorn Monastery and its surrounding areas rather than being ordinary members of the githyanki settlement.

Fixed quest and story items

Notable loot

Trade Post stock

The location page groups these into potential loot, trade goods, rewards and story items. They should not all be treated as guaranteed floor pickups: several are merchant stock, dialogue rewards or equipment associated with specific characters.

---

A different order is possible, but taking the Blood of Lathander without the crest can trigger a crisis that may destroy the crèche and remove later interactions.

---

---

Crèche Y’llek presents githyanki society at a formative level. The youths are not raised in a peaceful nursery. They are trained, judged and disciplined as future soldiers, while the hatchery treats birth itself as part of the military structure.

The contrast with the former Lathanderian monastery is deliberate. The old site was dedicated to renewal, light and religious guardianship. The githyanki use the same space as a fortified base controlled by a distant monarch and an inquisitorial hierarchy. The Blood of Lathander quest makes this conflict literal by placing a Lathander relic beneath the githyanki command structure.

The crèche also introduces the political distinction between githyanki loyalty to Vlaakith and the suppressed history of Prince Orpheus. What begins as Lae’zel’s search for purification becomes evidence that the authority she trusts has concealed the truth about her people.

Is Crèche Y’llek part of Rosymorn Monastery?

It is directly beneath the monastery and reached through its basement, but it is a separate named location. The monastery’s upper ruins and the crèche should be treated as neighbouring areas.

Is the Hatchery part of the crèche?

Yes. It is a distinct subarea within Crèche Y’llek and contains the Githyanki Egg.

Is the Secret Chamber part of the crèche?

It is a connected child area reached from the Inquisitor’s Chamber. It belongs to the Blood of Lathander route and should not be confused with the ordinary githyanki rooms.

Can I return after leaving?

The crèche is normally a dead-end area reached through Rosymorn Monastery, so leaving on foot generally means retracing the route. The waypoint and fast travel provide more convenient alternatives when available.

Should Lae’zel enter the Zaith’isk?

There is no universally correct choice. Lae’zel’s involvement produces different dialogue and can affect her personal storyline, but the procedure can still have harmful consequences. Make a save first and read the choices carefully.

Can I get the Blood of Lathander without destroying the crèche?

Yes. Obtain the Dawnmaster’s Crest from the monastery’s weapon puzzle, then place it in the altar before taking the relic.

What happens if I destroy the crèche?

The destruction can remove or alter later interactions, including the Zaith’isk if it has not already been used. It can also resolve the Blood of Lathander quest through escape rather than safe disarmament.
