Key takeaways

  • The Jungle is an Act Three location connected to Rivington, but it is not physically adjacent to the Circus of the Last Days.
  • Access requires winning Akabi’s jackpot by removing or bypassing the Djinni Ring that lets him cheat.
  • Only the speaking character is teleported there, so choose a capable, self-sufficient party member.
  • The two major rewards are Nyrulna in a locked chest near the exit portal and the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel in a backpack above the dinosaur den.
  • There is no fast travel or long rest inside the Jungle, and the portal is the only normal exit.
  • The area is one-time access in ordinary play Do not drop irreplaceable quest items, particularly Netherstones, before leaving.

About this guide

Base game, Act Three. Spoilers for Rivington, Akabi’s game and the Jungle’s loot.

Overview

The Jungle is a small, one-visit location in Act Three of Baldur’s Gate 3. It is not part of the normal Rivington overworld, nor is it a general Chult region that can be explored from the world map. Instead, it is an isolated extradimensional destination reached through Akabi, the djinni running the wheel game at the Circus of the Last Days. Winning Akabi’s rigged jackpot teleports only the character who spoke to him into the Jungle.

Despite its size, the area contains two highly desirable magic items: Nyrulna, a legendary trident, and the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel, a rare ring particularly useful to characters who combine weapon attacks with illusion or enchantment spells. The area also contains a small dinosaur encounter, a few pieces of environmental storytelling and a single portal back to the circus.

The Jungle is best treated as a short survival-and-looting excursion rather than a conventional region. There is no settlement, vendor, quest hub, waypoint or long-term route network. Prepare the chosen character before starting Akabi’s jackpot game, because the rest of the party cannot follow.

Scope and boundaries

In the game’s location hierarchy, the Jungle is listed as a location under Rivington, alongside places such as the Circus of the Last Days, the Open Hand Temple and Rivington General. It is therefore part of Act Three’s Rivington grouping for location purposes, but it is not a subdistrict that can be reached by walking across Rivington.

The area should also be kept separate from:

The Jungle itself has no named settlements or conventional child locations. Its meaningful internal divisions are practical rather than formal:

Access: winning Akabi’s jackpot

The normal route

Akabi’s wheel game costs gold to play and is deliberately rigged. The djinni uses the Djinni Ring to manipulate the result. To reach the Jungle, the participating character must either remove that advantage or use a special Bard dialogue option.

The Djinni Ring is worn by Akabi at the circus and grants its wearer the Mage Hand cantrip. Its significance is not merely that it is a useful ring: removing it prevents Akabi from cheating at the wheel.

Bard alternative

A Bard has another route. The character must first succeed on a passive DC 20 Perception check, then pass a DC 15 Persuasion or DC 15 Performance check to distract Akabi while the wheel is genuinely spun. This avoids the pickpocketing step, although the result still sends only the participating character to the Jungle.

Important access consequences

Winning the jackpot permanently closes Akabi’s game. It is not possible to obtain every consolation prize and then also claim the jackpot, because the game closes after the sixteenth spin if the jackpot has not already been won. Other outcomes, such as openly accusing Akabi or having the party transformed into cheese, can also deny further participation.

Choose the speaker carefully. The selected character must handle the Jungle alone, at least initially. A strong choice is a character who has:

A character who can Fly has an easier time moving around the terrain and avoiding or controlling the dinosaurs.

  1. 01
Enter the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington.
  2. 02
Speak to Akabi and identify the wheel game.
  3. 03

  4. 04
Return to the wheel and play again with the ring removed.
  5. 05
    Win the jackpot.
  6. 06

Geography and navigation

The Jungle is compact, heavily vegetated and broken into raised ground, cliffs and paths around the dinosaur den. The entry point is not directly beside the most valuable items, so a rushed escape can leave the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel behind.

The broadest useful route is to move from the arrival point towards the den, search the high ground above it, then continue to the south-east portal. The dinosaurs are concentrated around the den and are the main obstacle between the arrival point and the loot.

There is no waypoint and no fast travel. Long resting is also unavailable. The character must complete the visit with the resources they brought in.

Entry area

The selected character arrives alone after Akabi’s teleportation. The entry zone gives some room to assess the terrain before committing to the dinosaur fight. Do not assume the rest of the party will appear nearby: they cannot travel to the Jungle through normal means.

Alioramus den

The den lies west of the arrival point. It contains several ordinary Chult Alioramus and one Chult Alioramus Colossa. The creatures do not carry notable loot, so fighting them is primarily a question of safety and access rather than reward.

The Colossa can empower nearby alioramus with Mating Frenzy, giving them resistance to most damage types other than psychic, additional piercing damage and protection against being charmed or frightened. This makes grouping near the larger dinosaur dangerous, particularly for characters who rely on control spells.

Cliffside shelter

A cliff above the den contains a skeleton beneath a canvas shelter. The important find is not the body itself but the nearby backpack, which contains the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel. The backpack also contains the journal Always Hungry, which identifies the destination as part of Chult.

Derelict campsite

A ruined or abandoned campsite contains the note Don’t Mess With Djinnies. It is a small environmental joke and warning tied to the circumstances of the visit.

South-eastern exit

The only normal exit is a portal in the far south-eastern corner of the area. A locked chest beside it contains Nyrulna. The chest requires a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check to open.

Residents, creatures and factions

The Jungle has no friendly residents, merchants, faction headquarters or ordinary civilian population. Its inhabitants are hostile dinosaurs.

Chult Alioramus

The ordinary alioramus are large beasts capable of moving quickly and using leaping attacks. Their pounce can knock nearby targets prone, while their bite can inflict bleeding-related effects and make subsequent attacks more dangerous.

They are level 10 creatures in the cited stat presentation. Their most important practical feature is mobility: they can close distance quickly and punish a character who remains exposed on low ground.

Chult Alioramus Colossa

One Colossa is present in the den. It is the pack’s most important combatant because of its ability to trigger Mating Frenzy in nearby alioramus. A sensible approach is to separate the Colossa from the ordinary dinosaurs where possible, or remove it quickly before allowing the rest of the pack to surround the character.

Factions

No named faction controls or occupies the Jungle. The place is best understood as Akabi’s punitive destination rather than a settled Chultan outpost.

Loot and collectibles

Nyrulna

Nyrulna is the Jungle’s most famous reward. It is a legendary trident found in the locked chest beside the south-eastern exit portal. The chest requires a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check. Because the chest is near the way out, it is easy to leave the area without opening it if the character is focused only on escape.

Before entering the Jungle, confirm that the chosen character can open the chest. If not, consider bringing suitable lockpicking equipment or selecting a character with the necessary proficiency and bonuses.

Band of the Mystic Scoundrel

The Band of the Mystic Scoundrel is in a backpack near the cliffside shelter above the alioramus den. It grants Illusion Quickening: after the wearer hits a creature with a weapon attack, illusion and enchantment spells can be cast as bonus actions for that turn.

This is especially valuable for characters who use a weapon attack to set up spells such as Hold Person, Hypnotic Pattern, Fear or other illusion and enchantment effects. It can also work with relevant spell scrolls.

The ring is easy to miss because it is not in the den itself. Search the raised ground and the shelter above the dinosaurs rather than relying only on the main path.

Literature

Two pieces of readable material are associated with the Jungle:

The first provides setting information about the destination. The second is a humorous warning connected to Akabi’s behaviour.

Loot directory

The alioramus themselves do not provide notable loot.

Suggested walkthrough

In the Jungle

The portal returns the character to an outhouse near Akabi’s stall. If the character dies in the Jungle, a glowing revival orb appears near Akabi when the character returns to the circus context, allowing recovery under the game’s normal revival arrangement.

Before starting the game

  1. 01
Decide which character will speak to Akabi.
  2. 02
Equip that character for independent combat and exploration.
  3. 03
Make sure they can pick locks, or provide a reliable alternative.
  4. 04
Consider giving them healing, defensive consumables and mobility tools.
  5. 05
If you want the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel on a particular character, remember that only the transported character can collect it directly.
  6. 06
Remove or safely store fragile quest-critical items before entering.

Winning access

  1. 01
Pickpocket the Djinni Ring from Akabi, or use the Bard-specific distraction route.
  2. 02
    Spin the wheel again.
  3. 03
Accept the resulting teleportation rather than trying to resolve the confrontation at the circus first.

In the Jungle

  1. 01
Take a moment at the entry point to identify the route and avoid rushing into the whole pack.
  2. 02
Move towards the den and either fight the dinosaurs or use stealth, terrain and mobility to pass them.
  3. 03
Search the cliff above the den.
  4. 04
Open the backpack and collect the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel.
  5. 05
Read Always Hungry if you want the location’s in-world explanation.
  6. 06
Search the derelict campsite for Don’t Mess With Djinnies.
  7. 07
    Travel to the south-eastern corner.
  8. 08
Pick the lock on the chest beside the portal and take Nyrulna.
  9. 09
Use the portal to return to the Circus of the Last Days.

Combat advice

The Jungle’s combat is not mechanically complex, but it can be dangerous because the character is isolated and the dinosaurs combine mobility with knockdowns.

Prioritise the Colossa

The Colossa’s presence can improve the ordinary alioramus through Mating Frenzy. If combat begins near the den, consider targeting the Colossa first unless doing so exposes the character to several immediate pounces.

Use high ground carefully

The cliff containing the backpack is useful for visibility and can make it harder for the dinosaurs to reach the character immediately. However, do not climb onto the cliff and assume the fight is over. The alioramus can close distance quickly, and a character who is knocked prone near a ledge may lose control of the encounter.

Avoid unnecessary attrition

There is no long rest in the Jungle. If the character can reach the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel or the portal without fighting every dinosaur, that may be preferable. The enemies have no special reward that makes a complete clear mandatory.

Useful approaches

Useful approaches

Useful approaches
NameDetails
StealthScout the den, take the ring and route towards the portal without triggering a full fight where possible.
Flight or similar mobilityCross difficult ground and reach the high-value locations more safely.
Ranged combatKeep distance and punish dinosaurs as they approach.
Control magicStrong control can work, but Mating Frenzy prevents charm and fright effects on affected dinosaurs.
Burst damageUseful against the Colossa before it strengthens the surrounding pack.

Exit, failure states and missable content

One-visit concerns

The Jungle is intended to be visited through Akabi’s jackpot and is not presented as a repeatable map destination. Treat it as a one-time expedition. Once outside, there is no ordinary route back to Chult or to the Jungle.

Do not drop Netherstones

A reported softlock occurs if a party member drops a Netherstone in the Jungle before leaving. Because the area has no normal item-recovery route and is only accessible once, the dropped item may become unrecoverable. This is an especially serious risk in a progression-critical save.

Honour Mode stabilisation issue

The area also has a reported Honour Mode softlock involving a character wearing the Periapt of Wound Closure while downed. The character can remain in an infinite combat loop in a stabilised state. This is an unusual edge case, but it is worth removing the necklace before entering if you want to minimise the risk.

These issues are not ordinary intended mechanics and may vary with patches or platform versions. Save before starting Akabi’s game where possible.

Lore and setting

The Jungle appears to be part of Chult, a tropical peninsula in the Forgotten Realms known for dangerous wilderness and dinosaurs. The item Always Hungry reinforces that the transported character is not merely visiting another part of Rivington but has been sent to a distant tropical environment.

The area’s dinosaur species is the alioramus, a fictionalised game creature based on a real theropod genus. The creatures’ colourful crests and pack behaviour give the Jungle a distinct visual and mechanical identity despite its short playtime.

The Jungle also functions as a joke with real gameplay consequences. Akabi’s rigged carnival attraction turns into a sudden survival challenge, making the distant Chultan wilderness the “prize” for catching a djinni cheating.
