Key takeaways
- Lavernica’s Home is part of the Lower City, not a separate wilderness or dungeon region.
- It consists of a ground floor and basement, with a further cave-like chamber beyond a breach in the basement wall.
- The front door is locked, but it can be picked or destroyed without being treated as a crime.
- The Clown’s Severed Leg is found on Incontinentia Figgin in the cave beyond the basement.
- The house is connected to Find Dribbles the Clown, but it is not itself a combat encounter or a conventional quest hub.
- The building contains several named corpses, minor equipment, alchemical ingredients and pieces of written lore, but no living resident, merchant or functional service.
About this guide
Base game, Act Three location guide. Major spoilers for the Lower City, Find Dribbles the Clown, and the surrounding murder-scene storyline.
Overview
Lavernica’s Home is a small, single-storey dwelling in the Steeps district of Baldur’s Gate’s Lower City. It stands immediately outside the south-eastern entrance to Bloomridge Park and belongs to Lavernica, the park’s groundskeeper. Lavernica herself never appears in the game. By the time the party reaches the house, it has become the site of a massacre involving duergar, drow, spiders, a mind flayer and an earth elemental.
The building is easy to overlook because it has no quest marker of its own and presents itself as an ordinary locked home. Its importance comes from the basement: one of the body parts required for Find Dribbles the Clown lies there, alongside a note connecting the murder scene to Sendai, one of the Bhaalspawn from Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
Location and boundaries
Lavernica’s Home is a discrete building rather than the name of a wider neighbourhood. Its immediate setting is the Steeps district of the Lower City. The house stands just outside the south-eastern gate of Bloomridge Park, overlooking the area around Araj Oblodra’s Crimson Draughts and lying near the Lower City Central Wall area.
Nearby connections
The location diagram and quest guidance place the following areas around the house:
The most practical navigation landmark is the south-eastern entrance to Bloomridge Park. If the party is already in the park, leave through the side gate near the groundskeeper’s house. If approaching from the Lower City streets, look for the small building bearing the plaque identifying Lavernica as the park’s groundskeeper.
Access and route
There is only one documented entrance into the house. The front door is locked, but opening it does not trigger a crime response. The party can use lockpicking or simply destroy the door. The location is therefore available even without a key or a specific quest trigger.
Recommended route
The ground-floor hatch can also be opened without relying on the key, but taking the key is the simplest way to record the house’s intended exploration route.
Recommended route
- 01Travel to the Lower City Central Wall area or approach from Bloomridge Park.
- 02Find the small building just outside the park’s south-eastern entrance.
- 03Read the plaque if desired. It identifies the building as Lavernica’s home.
- 04Pick the lock or destroy the front door.
- 05Search the ground floor before opening the hatch.
- 06Take the Groundskeeper’s Hatch Key from the cupboard in the north corner.
- 07Use the key on the hatch in the opposite corner, or open the hatch by other means.
- 08Search the basement and the breached cave beyond it.
- 09Loot Incontinentia Figgin for the Clown’s Severed Leg and one copy of Sendai, the Third.
- 10Check the corpse of Danfora of the Kingfish for another copy of the same letter.
Building layout
Ground floor
The main room has already been turned into a murder scene. Duergar corpses and dead spiders are scattered through the building. There is no living resident to question and no encounter that begins merely because the party enters.
The key opens the hatch in the opposite corner. The documents help establish that Lavernica maintained Bloomridge Park as part of her ordinary duties. The house’s domestic details contrast sharply with the violence in both rooms.
Basement
The basement contains a much larger massacre. The bodies include:
A breach in the southern wall leads into a sizeable, roughly circular cave. A ritual circle occupies the centre of this chamber. The cave is the most important part of the location from a gameplay perspective.
The corpse of Incontinentia Figgin lies in the cave and carries:
The corpse of Danfora of the Kingfish contains another copy of Sendai, the Third. Other drow bodies in the cave share Incontinentia’s appearance and portraits, but they do not provide additional named interactions or usable dialogue.
A small western room contains hay but no major reward. Near the basement ladder are several herbs suitable for Alchemy. A wooden chest near the breach contains minor random loot. Several uncommon +1 weapons are distributed among or near the corpses.
Residents, victims and named characters
Lavernica is the nominal resident, but she never appears as a living character in the game. Her journal suggests that she had noticed suspicious figures moving through Bloomridge Park and considered reporting them to the Flaming Fist. The massacre may therefore be connected to her observations, although the game does not provide a complete, explicit account of her fate.
Named entries within the location
The other bodies have unique names, including the dead spiders and several humanoid victims, but they cannot be questioned with Speak with Dead, are not developed elsewhere in the game and generally have no special loot. The verified named directory above therefore covers the characters with meaningful location-specific documentation rather than treating every corpse name as a separate story character.
Named entries within the location
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Lavernica | Groundskeeper of Bloomridge Park and owner of the house. Never encountered alive. |
| Incontinentia Figgin | Deceased drow found in the breached cave. Carries the Clown’s Severed Leg and Sendai, the Third. |
| Danfora of the Kingfish | Deceased drow in the basement. Carries another copy of Sendai, the Third. |
Items and loot
Equipment and supplies
The basement may contain the following fixed or location-associated equipment:
There are also alchemical ingredients near the basement ladder, hay in the small western room and a chest containing minor random loot. The precise contents of random loot should not be treated as a guaranteed fixed inventory.

Find Dribbles the Clown
Lavernica’s Home is one of several murder scenes used to hide pieces of Dribbles the Clown. The relevant piece here is the Clown’s Severed Leg, found on Incontinentia Figgin in the cave below the house.
If the quest is already active
Looting the leg immediately advances the collection objective. The accompanying Sendai letter is not required to obtain the leg, but it helps explain the pattern linking the murder scenes to named Bhaalspawn.
If the quest has not been started
The party can still enter the house and take the leg. Companions may comment on the grisly discovery, but the item remains useful when the quest is encountered later.
Quest progression advice
The Dribbles quest requires body parts from several separate Lower City locations, including:
The clown’s hand, torso, arm, foot, pelvis and head are elsewhere. Lavernica’s Home contains only the leg.
Once every part is returned to Lucretious at the Circus of the Last Days, the quest provides Spellmight Gloves, unless they were already obtained through pickpocketing, in which case the reward is replaced by a small amount of gold. The quest can also grant background-specific Inspirations. The circus personnel leave after the next Long Rest, so traders and other circus interactions should be completed before resting after the hand-in.

Lore and the Sendai connection
The note Sendai, the Third links this scene to Sendai, a Bhaalspawn associated with Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. This is part of a wider pattern: the bodies found at the various Dribbles locations are accompanied by documents naming prominent Bhaalspawn from the earlier game.
The letter is therefore not evidence that Sendai is physically present in the house. It is a piece of thematic and historical framing for the murders. The actual victims in Lavernica’s Home are the corpses found in the basement and cave, not the historical figure named in the document.
Lavernica’s own records provide a more local thread. As park keeper, she monitored the grounds and noticed suspicious activity. Her thought of reporting it to the Flaming Fist suggests that she may have discovered something connected to the killers or their movements, but the game leaves the exact sequence unresolved. This is an inference from her notes rather than a fully confirmed account.
Hazards and secrets
There is no active boss fight, trap sequence or scripted enemy ambush inside the house in the ordinary base-game route. The danger is primarily environmental and narrative: the party is entering a crime scene and may miss the basement if they do not inspect the hatch.
The house should be searched before leaving because the leg is easy to miss if the party treats the massacre as background scenery.
