Key takeaways

  • Stormshore Armoury is a Lower City location in Act Three, not a separate district or a broad “Stormshore” region.
  • The armoury has two independent traders Fytz sells weapons, arrows and weapon-coating potions; Gloomy Fentonson sells armour and dyes.
  • The Dead Shot is one of the armoury’s most valuable purchases for critical-hit and ranged builds. Flail of Ages is a versatile rare flail with elemental effects.
  • Armour of Agility is Fentonson’s headline item It is very rare medium armour with full Dexterity added to AC and a +2 bonus to saving throws.
  • Fytz is an old friend of Karlach Speaking to her with Karlach present can produce unique dialogue and may provide a discount on Fytz’s weapons.
  • A locked heavy chest behind Fytz contains two random uncommon +1 weapons Fytz carries the key, while the chest can also be lockpicked.
  • The cat Barsik, found across from the armoury rather than inside it, has a separate Speak with Animals interaction connected to Derryth Bonecloak.

Note

Base game, Act Three, Lower City. This guide covers the Stormshore Armoury itself and the immediate encounter directly opposite it. It does not fold in the neighbouring Stormshore Tabernacle, Sorcerous Sundries, Bonecloak’s Apothecary, Flymm’s Cobblers or the wider Lower City Central Wall area.

Overview

Stormshore Armoury is a small but useful weapons-and-armour shop in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate 3. It sits against the eastern side of the Lower City Central Wall, close to the Lower City Central Wall waypoint, and consists of an open-front smithy with a forge, bellows, training dummies and two separate trading stalls. One stall belongs to the weaponsmith Fytz the Firecracker, while the other belongs to the armourer Gloomy Fentonson.

The armoury is easy to overlook because it is not a large enclosed building. Its importance comes from the quality of its Act Three stock, particularly The Dead Shot, Flail of Ages and Armour of Agility. It also contains two locked heavy chests, one of which can be opened with Fytz’s key. If Karlach is in the party, the armoury becomes a small but memorable companion scene rather than merely a shopping stop.

---

Where the armoury is

Stormshore Armoury stands immediately beside the eastern face of the Lower City Central Wall. It is close to the Lower City Central Wall waypoint and forms part of the dense commercial streets around that section of the Lower City. The armoury’s shop space is open to the street, with the forge and stalls visible from outside.

“Stormshore” is therefore not the name of a large Lower City quarter in this context. It is used in multiple separate location names, including Stormshore Armoury and Stormshore Tabernacle. These should not be treated as one combined interior or one continuous quest area.

Physical layout

The area is principally a trading location. There is no verified boss arena, dungeon level or substantial hidden subarea beneath the armoury.

Named places and physical features

The forge, bellows, stalls and training dummies are descriptive features of the armoury rather than separately titled map locations.

Reaching the armoury

The simplest route is to enter the Lower City and travel to the Lower City Central Wall waypoint. From there, look along the wall for the open-air armoury and its visible forge equipment. The armoury lies in the same general commercial cluster as several major Lower City businesses, but those neighbouring buildings are separate locations.

The armoury itself does not require a quest, disguise, password or special class feature to enter or trade. The separate Barsik conversation does require the ability to communicate with animals.

A practical shopping route is

  1. 01
Reach the Lower City Central Wall waypoint.
  2. 02
Find the open smithy beside the wall.
  3. 03
Speak to Fytz first if Karlach is in the active party.
  4. 04
    Inspect Fytz’s weapons and consumables.
  5. 05
Speak to Gloomy Fentonson and inspect his armour.
  6. 06
Check the heavy chest behind Fytz.
  7. 07
Cross to the sandy patch opposite the armoury and speak to Barsik with Speak with Animals if you want the optional cat interaction.
  8. 08
Continue to Bonecloak’s Apothecary only if you are following the Barsik-related outcome.

Theft and locked storage

Fytz carries the Blacksmith’s Chest Key, which opens the heavy chest behind her. The chest can alternatively be opened with a Sleight of Hand check. The relevant chest is at approximately X: -38, Y: -87, while Fytz is listed near X: -38, Y: -84.

Gloomy Fentonson also carries a key, but available location research records no known chest that it opens. Do not assume that every merchant key in the armoury corresponds to visible loot.

---

Fytz the Firecracker

Fytz is a gold dwarf weapons trader and one of the armoury’s two merchants. She sells weapons, arrows and potions that can be used as weapon coatings. Her important named stock includes Flail of Ages and The Dead Shot.

Fytz is also part of Karlach’s personal history. She once worked for Gortash alongside Karlach, but left after becoming concerned about his increasingly cruel methods. Fytz later married Gregor and is expecting a child. Karlach receives special dialogue when she meets Fytz, although the exact conversation varies with the state of the Gortash storyline, whether Karlach is a companion or origin character, and whether the player character is Karlach’s romantic partner.

If Karlach is an active party member, Fytz can offer a discount on her weapons after the relevant conversation. Karlach also has a follow-up exchange about her future after speaking with Fytz.

Fytz’s verified stock

Some stock is subject to merchant restocking and not every listed item is necessarily present in every inventory refresh.

Arrows

Fytz also sells various arrows from uncommon to very rare grades.

Gloomy Fentonson

Gloomy Fentonson is the armour trader at Stormshore Armoury. His most notable item is Armour of Agility, and he also sells various dyes ranging from uncommon to very rare quality. His broader armour inventory includes conventional +1 and +2 light, medium and heavy armour types.

Gloomy Fentonson’s verified notable stock

The general armour table associated with Fentonson includes leather, padded, studded leather, chain shirt, breastplate, half plate, hide, scale mail, chain mail, plate, ring mail and splint armour in relevant enchantment grades. The exact inventory shown in a playthrough may vary with restocking and game state.

Barsik

Barsik is a cat on the sandy patch opposite the armoury. He is not a trader and is not physically part of the armoury’s shop interior, but he is the most important nearby optional interaction associated with the location. With Speak with Animals, Barsik reveals himself as a preacher of Sharess.

If the party listens to his religious pitch, Barsik can be persuaded to help Derryth Bonecloak with her loneliness, provided Derryth’s husband Baelen did not survive in the Underdark during Act One. If convinced, Barsik later appears in Bonecloak’s Apothecary. This is a state-dependent side interaction, not a permanent service offered by the armoury.

Karlach, Gortash, Gregor, Derryth and Baelen are not all present at the armoury. They are included here because they are directly relevant to Fytz’s dialogue or Barsik’s optional outcome.

The Dead Shot

The Dead Shot is a longbow sold by Fytz. Its Improved Critical passive reduces the number needed to roll a critical hit by 1, while Keen Attack doubles the wielder’s proficiency bonus when making ranged attacks unless the wielder has disadvantage. It also provides the ranged weapon actions Brace and Hamstring Shot to a proficient user.

The weapon is sold by Fytz near the Lower City Central Wall waypoint, at approximately X: -36, Y: -83.

Flail of Ages

Flail of Ages is a rare +1 flail sold by Fytz. It can inflict elemental conditions depending on the damage dealt, including Acid, Chilled or Burning, and grants the Elemental Age ability. Its Tenacity feature deals Strength Modifier bludgeoning damage, with a minimum of 1, when a melee attack misses.

Elemental Age can be cast as a level 3 spell and recharges on a long rest. The item’s description also connects it to earlier Forgotten Realms material, as Flail of Ages appears in Baldur’s Gate 2.

Armour of Agility

Armour of Agility is a very rare medium armour item sold by Fentonson. It has an armour class of 17, allows the wearer to add their full Dexterity modifier to AC, does not impose disadvantage on Stealth checks and grants +2 to all saving throws.

The armour is listed at approximately X: -41, Y: -71, close to the Lower City Central Wall waypoint.

Headline purchases

Item availability can depend on merchant restocking and progression, so check the actual inventory rather than assuming every listed item will appear at every visit.

Blacksmith’s Chest

The locked heavy chest behind Fytz is opened by the Blacksmith’s Chest Key, which Fytz carries. It contains two random uncommon weapons with a +1 enchantment. The chest can also be lockpicked with a reported DC 15 Sleight of Hand check.

Acquisition options

The weapons are random, so the chest should be treated as bonus loot rather than a source of a named build-defining item.

Acquisition options

  1. 01
Buy or steal Fytz’s key, then use it on the chest.
  2. 02
Pick the chest directly, using a character with suitable Sleight of Hand.
  3. 03
If using theft, consider separating the party and controlling line of sight, since the chest is in a public trading area.

Fentonson’s key

Fentonson carries another key, but current location evidence does not identify a matching chest in his section of the armoury. Do not spend time searching the nearby buildings on the assumption that the key must open a hidden armoury vault.

Verified item directory

The final category is intentionally broad because the available evidence confirms the armour classes and enchantment grades but does not establish one permanently fixed inventory for every playthrough.

---

Stormshore Armoury is one of the Lower City locations that rewards bringing Karlach along. Fytz recognises Karlach if she is present as a companion, and their conversation deals with Karlach’s disappearance, Gortash’s explanation of what happened to her, and Fytz’s own life after leaving his service.

Because the exchange depends on several story variables, players seeking all available dialogue should speak to Fytz with Karlach present before advancing too far through the Gortash storyline. The available evidence does not establish a single universal hard cut-off for the scene, so this is best treated as a precaution rather than a confirmed missability trigger.

---

The cat opposite the armoury provides a small optional chain of interactions.

Walkthrough

This is not a shop upgrade, armoury quest or combat encounter. It is a nearby social interaction whose later location changes.

---

Stormshore Armoury has no verified fixed enemy group, boss or scripted battle as part of its normal location content. Its main risks come from treating a public commercial space as a private loot room.

Walkthrough: steps

  1. 01
Bring a character with Speak with Animals.
  2. 02
Speak to Barsik on the sandy patch across from Stormshore Armoury.
  3. 03
    Listen to his Sharess-related sermon.
  4. 04
Agree to help or persuade him to address Derryth Bonecloak’s loneliness.
  5. 05
This outcome depends on Baelen’s survival in the Underdark during Act One.
  6. 06
If the condition is met and Barsik is convinced, he leaves the armoury area.
  7. 07
Barsik can later be found in Bonecloak’s Apothecary.

Progression considerations

The sources confirm that the outcome of Stop the Presses can alter Fytz’s and Fentonson’s attitude, but do not provide a complete table of every possible attitude or inventory change.

For a first visit, use this order

  1. 01
Approach with Karlach, if you want the companion dialogue.
  2. 02
Speak to Fytz before buying anything.
  3. 03
Inspect The Dead Shot, Flail of Ages, arrows and weapon coatings.
  4. 04
Speak to Gloomy Fentonson and compare Armour of Agility with your current medium-armour users.
  5. 05
Decide whether the Blacksmith’s Chest is worth opening.
  6. 06
Cross the street to speak with Barsik if you have Speak with Animals.
  7. 07
Visit Bonecloak’s Apothecary later only if you pursued Barsik’s optional outcome.
  8. 08
Continue to other Lower City businesses separately. Do not treat the adjacent Stormshore Tabernacle or Sorcerous Sundries as part of the armoury.

Quick checklist

---

Fytz’s history gives the armoury a direct connection to Karlach’s past and to Gortash’s rise. She worked alongside Karlach before becoming uncomfortable with Gortash’s increasingly cruel methods, making her one of the Lower City merchants who can add personal context to Karlach’s Act Three story.

The Flail of Ages is also a cross-series reference. Its description recalls an earlier history involving a rakshasa and Lord de’Arnise, and the weapon appears in Baldur’s Gate 2 as well as Baldur’s Gate 3.

The armoury’s design is deliberately practical rather than grand: forge equipment, working stalls and training dummies make it feel like a functioning neighbourhood smithy. This contrasts with the larger specialist shops elsewhere in the Lower City, such as Sorcerous Sundries or the Forge of the Nine. The latter are separate businesses and should not be counted as subareas of Stormshore Armoury.

---

Is Stormshore Armoury the same place as Stormshore Tabernacle?

No. They are separate Lower City locations. The Tabernacle is a multi-deity shrine beside the Basilisk Gate Barracks, while the Armoury is a weapons-and-armour shop beside the Lower City Central Wall.

Who sells Armour of Agility?

Gloomy Fentonson sells it at Stormshore Armoury. It is very rare medium armour with AC 17, full Dexterity added to AC, no Stealth disadvantage and +2 to saving throws.

Who sells The Dead Shot?

Fytz the Firecracker sells The Dead Shot. It is a longbow with Improved Critical and Keen Attack.

Does Karlach need to be in the party?

Karlach is needed in the active party for the recognised companion interaction and the associated possible discount. The available evidence distinguishes companion and origin states, so Karlach’s exact presentation changes depending on how she is being played.

What does Fytz’s key open?

The Blacksmith’s Chest Key opens the heavy chest behind Fytz, approximately at X: -38, Y: -87. It contains two random uncommon +1 weapons.

Is there a boss or dungeon under the armoury?

No boss or substantial dungeon area is verified in the available location evidence. The armoury is primarily a shop and social encounter location.
