Wyrm's Crossing

Wyrm’s Crossing is the crowded bridge district between Rivington and Wyrm’s Rock Fortress.

Importancemajor

Key takeaways

  • Wyrm’s Crossing is not Wyrm’s Rock Fortress The fortress begins beyond the guarded bridge at the northern end of the district.
  • The region includes the South Span Checkpoint, the bridge businesses, Fraygo’s Flophouse, Sharess’ Caress, Carm’s Garms, Danthelon’s Dancing Axe and the upstairs Velveteen Elixir potion shop.
  • This is the main early hub for the Open Hand Temple murders investigation, the search for Ffion, Astarion’s Act Three progression, the Guild and Stone Lord plot, Raphael and Voss, and the first stage of several routes involving Gortash.
  • Explore before advancing major Act Three objectives Several named characters move, disappear or become unavailable when their associated quests progress.
  • The best practical route is to activate the waypoint, search the checkpoint, sweep the western buildings, then cross to Sharess’ Caress and the eastern shops before approaching Wyrm’s Rock.
  • You can reach the district without treating the checkpoint as an absolute barrier. Jumping, teleportation and similar movement abilities can bypass parts of the gate, although dialogue and quest consequences still depend on the wider Act Three state.

About this guide

Scope: Base-game Baldur’s Gate 3. This guide treats Wyrm’s Crossing as its own Act Three region, including the bridge district, South Span Checkpoint fortifications, its businesses and side structures. Rivington, Wyrm’s Rock Fortress, Wyrm’s Rock Prison, the Wyrmway and the Lower City are neighbouring or child regions, not part of Wyrm’s Crossing itself, although several quests cross those boundaries. Spoilers: Major Act Three spoilers, including the murders investigation, Gortash’s coronation, the Iron Throne route and companion quests.

Overview

Wyrm’s Crossing is the crowded bridge district between Rivington and Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. It is the first strongly urban area encountered on the road into Baldur’s Gate and acts as a social, commercial and narrative bottleneck. The region is much more built-up than Rivington, with businesses, boarding rooms, pleasure houses, traders, guards and refugees packed along a broad stone bridge above the River Chionthar.

The crossing is easy to mistake for a small collection of shops on the way to the city. In practice, almost every building contains a quest lead, a trader, a named resident, a hidden route or useful information. Its rear balconies, scaffolds and open wooden decks are especially important: they often provide ways into buildings without using the main entrance and let the party move around the bridge district above the river.

Included places

South Span Checkpoint fortifications

The checkpoint consists of two wooden rampart towers immediately behind the southern gate. The towers contain several containers with useful early Act Three supplies, including healing potions, Elixirs of Hill Giant Strength, random arrows, camp supplies and random scrolls. The contents are generally red-outlined, so taking them may count as theft. Fist Azari and Fist Meadows are the guards most consistently associated with the western tower.

A rustic chest in the western tower requires a high Sleight of Hand check and contains comparatively modest rewards, including gold and random dyes. The checkpoint is therefore worth searching, but it is not essential to force every lock.

If Clan Ironhand’s deep gnomes have helped the party enter the district, Manip Falcäo may call out with a request concerning a pest problem. His position can change after a long rest or if the expected gnome presence does not occur.

Fraygo’s Flophouse

Fraygo’s Flophouse is a three-storey boarding house on the western side of the bridge. It is one of the most important buildings in the region despite its unassuming appearance.

Inside, Trader Griska sells potions and alchemical ingredients, while Queelia Arvis, the cook, can provide camp supplies. Outside, Thodric Shedeveer offers a small fish-related interaction. Crak and Rilia argue nearby about finding somewhere decent to sleep, reinforcing the building’s role as a refuge for people arriving in the city.

The upper balcony contains a locked back entrance. A further door above it leads towards the serial killer’s hideout. This route is especially relevant to the investigation connected to Ffion and the murders.

Sharess’ Caress

Sharess’ Caress is the largest and most visually prominent establishment in the district. It is a pleasure house run by Mamzell Amira, with rooms spread across several floors and connected structures on both sides of the bridge. The building includes balconies, upper rooms, a cellar and accommodation above the central archway.

The balconies make Sharess’ Caress unusually easy to explore from outside. Players can approach rooms from the bridge and surrounding platforms instead of following the internal stairways.

The entrance area contains several minor conversations and background scenes, including Laila, Embry and Hakeem, Surixana and Cillian, and Neno Quilltop with Kali Hammerhand. These are ordinary residents and visitors rather than a single factional group, and they help establish the crossing as a busy arrival point where trade, pleasure and desperation overlap.

Important named figures associated with the establishment include:

Sharess’ Caress is involved in Aid the Underduke, Deal with the Devil, Find the ‘Stern Librarian’ Ffion, Help Kith’rak Voss, Investigate the Suspicious Toys, Solve the Open Hand Temple Murders and The Githyanki Warrior. It can also provide a route to an admission pass for Wyrm’s Rock through the Nymph’s Grotto.

Under the archway, two vendors are easy to overlook:

The South Span of Wyrm’s Crossing waypoint is mounted near the main entrance, making Sharess’ Caress a convenient central landmark even if the party does not intend to pursue its story content.

Carm’s Garms

Carm’s Garms is a camp clothing and dye shop owned by Carmen Pennygood, sister of Figaro Pennygood in the Lower City. The shop is useful for changing camp outfits and acquiring dyes, but it is also a character scene location. Naaber, a persistent would-be adventurer, can be found inside. If ignored, he may follow the party for some distance.

Nearby, Trinigan Gazotts, Slozy Arminifer and Vinegaroon discuss the Steel Watch and its construction. Their conversation is valuable context for the city’s growing dependence on the automatons, although they are not themselves a formal Steel Watch post.

Danthelon’s Dancing Axe

Danthelon’s Dancing Axe is a weapons and armour shop run by Entharl Danthelon. It also serves as a Harper contact point and hideout. Danthelon’s stock can include several notable items, including:

The shop is therefore worth visiting even for parties not following the Harper plot. Its role in The High Harper and related companion content makes it one of the most consequential ordinary businesses in the district.

The Velveteen Elixir

The Velveteen Elixir occupies the upper floor above Danthelon’s Dancing Axe, although the map labels it simply as Potion Shop. It is run by Stylin’ Horst.

Horst sells potions, elixirs and alchemical ingredients, including rare ingredients. The back room can also be reached from outside and contains ingredients that may be looted. Do not assume that a visit to Danthelon’s automatically counts as exploring the potion shop: the two businesses occupy different floors and should be checked separately.

Bypassing the South Span gate

The checkpoint gate can be bypassed through jumps or movement abilities such as Misty Step, an Arrow of Transposition or flight. The relevant approach begins from the rocky area near the southern side of the bridge. A heavy chest can also be found along the bypass route. This is an alternative means of entering the map, not a replacement for the district’s normal dialogue and quest progression.

Reaching Wyrm’s Rock Fortress

The northern patrol consists of Flaming Fists and three Steel Watchers. Access may be obtained through several routes, including:

The fortress is closed during the initial approach because Gortash’s ordination is about to take place. Successfully entering can grant background inspiration such as Multipass, Procedures be Damned, Rock-Solid Alibi or Through Nooks and Crannies, depending on the character and method used.

Residents and traders within Wyrm’s Crossing

Story-associated characters and visitors

This directory distinguishes named figures attached to the region from the larger populations of citizens, guards, entertainers and visitors. Several of the story-associated characters may only be present under particular quest conditions or may change status as Act Three progresses. The source material confirms their association with the location, but not every possible timing variation in every playthrough.

---

Flaming Fist

The Flaming Fist controls the checkpoints and regulates movement towards Wyrm’s Rock. The faction’s presence is visible at both the southern fortifications and northern bridge. Their role is not limited to combat: conversations, permits, bribes, arrests and background-specific dialogue can all determine how freely the party moves.

Steel Watch

Steel Watchers operate alongside the Flaming Fist at the route into Wyrm’s Rock. Their presence makes the northern end of the bridge feel more heavily controlled than the commercial district itself. The Steel Watch plot can alter later access and security states, so the area should be revisited if the party disables the Watch.

Harpers

Danthelon’s Dancing Axe functions as a Harper contact and hideout. This makes the otherwise ordinary-looking shop an important safe location for The High Harper and related companion progression.

Guild, githyanki and murder network

Sharess’ Caress and Fraygo’s Flophouse act as meeting points for several overlapping plots. The Guild and Stone Lord conflict, Raphael’s bargain, Voss and the githyanki, and the investigation into ritual killings all touch the crossing without making the entire region belong to one faction.

The main activities in Wyrm’s Crossing are investigative and social rather than dungeon-like.

Fixed or location-linked supplies

These checkpoint containers may be marked as owned. Treat them as theft opportunities rather than guaranteed free supplies.

Trader stock

The most notable purchasable equipment comes from Danthelon’s Dancing Axe. Horst’s potion shop is more valuable for consumables and ingredients, while Griska provides another alchemical source. Carm’s Garms is the clothing and dye stop, and the Sharess’ Caress vendors cover paintings, dyes and camp supplies.

Trader inventories can depend on level, rest state, dialogue and campaign progression. The named items listed for Danthelon are reported as stock associated with the shop, but not every item should be treated as guaranteed under every trading refresh or character level.

---

Theft and guard reactions

The checkpoint towers contain useful items but are guarded areas. Red outlines indicate that taking an item may be considered stealing. This is a good place for a rogue, invisible character or isolated looter, but careless looting can create avoidable fights or arrests.

Rear balconies

The rear decks are the district’s most important environmental feature. They allow the party to:

Search vertically. Wyrm’s Crossing is designed to reward players who look above shop signs and behind the main façades.

Quest timing

Some content is sensitive to Act Three progression. In particular:

The available evidence confirms these progression relationships, but exact availability can vary with quest order, long rests and whether the party has already entered neighbouring regions. Treat the district as a place to complete conversations early rather than a backdrop to revisit only after the main plot.

---

This route keeps the shops, investigations and companion material together while postponing the region transition that leads into the fortress.

Related but separate regions

The last group is deliberately excluded from Wyrm’s Crossing proper. These places connect directly to the district or its quests, but they have separate region identities and should not be treated as subareas of the bridge itself.

Related but separate regions

Is Wyrm’s Rock Fortress part of Wyrm’s Crossing?

No. Wyrm’s Crossing ends at the guarded approach to the fortress. Wyrm’s Rock Fortress is a separate Act Three region with its own waypoint and internal areas.

Where is the Wyrm’s Crossing waypoint?

The South Span of Wyrm’s Crossing waypoint is near the entrance to Sharess’ Caress, on the bridge district’s southern side.

Can I bypass the South Span Checkpoint?

Yes. Jumping and movement abilities can bypass the gate, although this does not remove the need to handle later security or quest conditions.

Which shop sells camp clothes?

Carm’s Garms sells camp clothing and dyes. The owner is Carmen Pennygood.

Where can I buy potions?

Trader Griska in Fraygo’s Flophouse sells potions and alchemical ingredients. Stylin’ Horst sells a broader selection from the Velveteen Elixir above Danthelon’s Dancing Axe.

Should I explore before going to Wyrm’s Rock?

Yes. Wyrm’s Crossing contains multiple investigation leads, traders, companion scenes and quest characters. Exploring first reduces the chance of overlooking conversations or delaying access to useful information.

Is this guide complete for every named background NPC?

It includes the verified named entries identified in the researched regional page and its character category, but some incidental citizens may appear only in particular quest states or may be documented inconsistently. The most important unresolved area is the full, state-by-state availability of minor residents after major Act Three progression. This guide should therefore be treated as a researched base-game guide rather than a claim that every unnamed or transient background actor has been exhaustively catalogued.
