Key takeaways

  • The park is much larger than its central statue plaza Its scope includes the pond, waterfall, fountain, picnic grounds, patrol routes and several boundary entrances.
  • The Bhaalist ambush is the park’s main event It can be discovered with a passive DC 10 Perception check, and approaching the waterfall normally starts the encounter.
  • Your Orin-related progression matters The Bhaalists’ treatment of the party and the Flaming Fists’ involvement depend on whether the party has bargained with Orin, declined her offer or already killed her.
  • The civilians are vulnerable Albert, Sparky, Eugenie, Wendel, Bertram and Martina may be caught in the attack. If you want to hear their dialogue or save them, explore the park before triggering the ambush.
  • The area changes after the ambush and a Long Rest A new Flaming Fist patrol and Steel Watcher appear, while three children discuss the attack.
  • Search the edges, not just the paths The park contains two Survival-check treasure caches, alchemical ingredients, red-outlined camp supplies and Traveller’s Chests.

About this guide

Base game, Act Three. Spoilers for the Lower City, the Bhaalist ambush and several Act Three quests.

Overview

Bloomridge Park is a large public park in the northern Lower City of Baldur’s Gate 3. It is not merely the paved plaza around the Balduran statue. The location includes a broad stretch of landscaped ground, a pond, a waterfall, picnic areas, paths, a fountain and several boundary routes leading towards the Facemaker’s Boutique, The Blushing Mermaid and the Upper City side of the Lower City.

The park is one of Act Three’s strongest examples of background storytelling. Before anything happens, it is filled with ordinary citizens, retired Flaming Fists, children, courting couples and people discussing books, refugees and local life. That calm is deceptive. A group of Bhaalists is concealed near the waterfall, and approaching the area can trigger a major ambush whose outcome changes according to the party’s dealings with Orin and Gortash.

Bloomridge Park also connects to Lavernica’s Home, a small house just outside the park’s south-eastern entrance. Although the house is a separate named location, it is important enough to include in this guide’s practical park route because it contains a murder scene, the Clown’s Severed Leg and a branch of the Find Dribbles the Clown quest.

The game places the park in the Steeps district on its playable map, although wider Forgotten Realms geography associates the name “Bloomridge” with a district farther west. The two should not be treated as identical in-game areas.

Boundaries and included areas

Bloomridge Park occupies a large tract between Facemaker’s Boutique, the Lower City Central Wall and The Blushing Mermaid. The north-west of the park contains a sandy pond connected to the partly underground stream that runs towards the Upper City. The same watercourse feeds the artificial waterfall in the north-east. The paved central section is patrolled by Flaming Fists, while the deeper landscaped areas contain most of the ambush setup and civilian vignettes.

For this guide, the following are treated as part of the park’s practical scope:

Closely connected but separate location

Lavernica’s Home is not a sub-room of the park. It is a separate named Lower City location immediately outside the south-eastern park entrance. It is included here because it is reached naturally during a park circuit and contains important Act Three quest loot.

Neighbouring places not included as park subareas

The following locations border or connect to the park but remain separate:

The Blushing Mermaid is a tavern south of the park, looking towards Grey Harbour. The Upper City Gate Checkpoint occupies the bridge beyond the stream and is a separate Lower City location, not a park entrance or internal district.

Neighbouring places not included as park subareas

Geography and landmarks

The park is designed as a public recreational space rather than a commercial district. Its paved section is the safest place to begin exploring because it contains the main entrance, patrols and several NPC conversations. The paths then open into greener ground, flowerbeds and less formal areas around the fountain and water features.

Central statue of Balduran

The statue of Balduran stands near the centre of the park. Eugenie Kenridge and Wendel Ashgrove are having a date nearby. They are ordinary civilians rather than quest-givers, but their conversation contributes to the park’s initial sense of normality.

They are also among the civilians most likely to be caught early if the Bhaalist ambush begins. Explore and speak to them before entering the ambush area if you want to preserve their scene.

Fountain and flowerbeds

The fountain lies in the deeper section of the park, close to the hidden Bhaalist positions. If the party succeeds on the ambush’s Perception check, the flowerbeds and nearby stairs provide useful approach routes for a surprise attack.

The flowerbeds are especially valuable tactically because the party can move behind the revealed cultists rather than approaching from the obvious path. The approximate alternative approach points are X: -135, Y: -5 and X: -86, Y: -40.

North-west pond

The pond has sandy shores and appears to form part of the partly underground stream separating the Lower City from the Upper City. It is surrounded by freely collectable alchemical ingredients, although the park’s ordinary camp supplies remain red-outlined and stealing them counts as a crime.

North-east waterfall

The waterfall is one of the park’s most important points of interest. Conall’s ball lies at the waterfall pool, and approaching this area normally causes the ambush sequence to begin. Three Bhaalists are visible arguing in the open, while other cultists remain concealed nearby.

The waterfall is also where later children discuss the attack after the event has been resolved and the party has completed at least one Long Rest.

Access and routes

The park has four practical entry points.

These are entrances into the park itself. Lavernica’s Home has its own locked entrance at approximately X: -76, Y: -70. Lockpicking or destroying that door is not treated as a crime.

This route lets you see the park’s ordinary life before the event and reduces the chance of missing civilian conversations.

Recommended first exploration route

  1. 01
    Enter through the main entrance.
  2. 02
Speak to or observe the civilians on the paved ground.
  3. 03
Visit the Balduran statue and the retired Flaming Fists.
  4. 04
Check the book-lovers near the side entrance.
  5. 05
Search the park edges for ingredients without taking red-outlined camp supplies.
  6. 06
Visit Lavernica’s Home before triggering the waterfall event.
  7. 07
Return to the park and prepare for the ambush.
  8. 08
Approach the waterfall only when the party is ready for combat.

Residents and ordinary NPCs

Bloomridge Park has an unusually large collection of minor named civilians. Most are not vendors, quest-givers or combatants. Their value is environmental: they establish how a normal Lower City neighbourhood behaves before the Bhaalists attack.

Civilian groups and scenes

Albert and Sparky: Albert is trying to take his dog home. Sparky moves quickly, so Turn-Based Mode can make interaction easier. Sparky can be persuaded to return to Albert. During the ambush, Albert runs away, and Sparky may be killed.

Eugenie Kenridge and Wendel Ashgrove: The pair are on a date near the statue of Balduran. They are vulnerable to the opening stages of the attack.

Eldaernth, Avourel, Thokki and Vistra: These retired Flaming Fists sit together and discuss current events and their former service.

Caerdwyn, Kepli and Morgan: This group gathers near the side entrance to discuss a novel.

Conall and Emen: The children argue about who should retrieve Conall’s ball from the waterfall pool. There is no functioning interaction for returning the ball. Approaching the pool triggers the ambush sequence.

Bertram and Martina Kostaka: The elderly couple are walking through the park. Their route brings them close to the attack, making them possible victims.

Druggag and Larca Mena: Behind the park fence, they discuss a family of ten refugees from Elturel whom Druggag has sheltered.

Cyrella, Tam and Skip: These children appear after the ambush has been resolved and the party has taken at least one Long Rest. Cyrella claims that her older brother defeated the attackers alone. They have no interaction option.

Flaming Fists and security

The paved part of the park is regularly patrolled by Flaming Fists. Several named Fists are associated with the area, but not all occupy it at the same time. Some are tied to the ambush state or the later post-event state.

Flaming Fist directory

Before the ambush, Manip Edenosa leads the patrol near the park. If she dies during the battle, Fist Griff can replace her. Griff is a replacement character used for this event and may not be encountered elsewhere in the same playthrough.

After the ambush is resolved and the party completes at least one Long Rest, the park receives a new patrol consisting of Fist Brottor, Fist Elda, Fist Moss, Fist Ulinn and a Steel Watcher.

About this guide

Major spoiler

The Bhaalist ambush

The ambush is Bloomridge Park’s central combat encounter. Bhaal cultists are concealed in the deeper park near the fountain and waterfall. Two cultists are visible near the waterfall pool, while a passive DC 10 Perception check can reveal additional hidden enemies.

Bhaalist directory

The cult group includes three Night Blades, a Reaper of Bhaal and two Death’s Heads of Bhaal in the hidden encounter setup. Cirian and the Sinister Hooded Man have unusual title and rank presentation compared with their actual combat identities, so do not assume every displayed name corresponds directly to a formal cult rank.

How the encounter starts

The party can trigger the encounter by approaching the waterfall pool. The Perception check occurs whether or not the party has spoken with Manip Edenosa.

Stealth, high ground and area-control spells are useful because the fight begins close to civilian targets. If the party waits too long or allows the cultists to act, civilians can be killed before the party has a chance to intervene.

Orin and Gortash progression

The encounter changes according to the party’s current relationship with Orin and Gortash:

The available evidence identifies this progression as dependent on Orin and Gortash state, but some details are flagged for verification in the underlying reference. Treat unusual edge cases as potentially version- or sequence-dependent rather than guaranteed.

Manip Edenosa’s aftermath

If a fight occurs, Manip Edenosa approaches the party afterwards. Her behaviour becomes increasingly strange, and the conversation reveals that the Elder Brain is speaking through her. It urges the party to help break it free from the Crown of Karsus before her mind collapses and she dies.

If the party allows the cultists to kill civilians and flee without a normal fight, this conversation does not trigger.

Ambush rewards

Surviving the fight grants Urban Jungle inspiration to characters with the Outlander background.

Manip Edenosa can also provide a Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen, although taking it from her corpse may be awkward because the body becomes red-outlined and nearby subordinates remain close. Concealment or Minor Illusion can help if the party wants to secure it without immediately provoking witnesses.

How the encounter starts: If the check succeeds, the party can

  1. 01
    Move behind the revealed cultists.
  2. 02
Use the flowerbeds or nearby stairs for a better approach.
  3. 03
Initiate combat and gain a surprise round.

Lavernica’s Home

Lavernica’s Home is a small, single-storey building just outside the park’s south-eastern entrance. A plaque identifies Lavernica as Bloomridge Park’s groundskeeper and describes her affection for the park’s natural life.

The entrance is locked but can be opened without committing a crime. Inside, the party finds dead duergar and spider carcasses. A cupboard contains Park Keeper’s Chores and the Groundskeeper’s Hatch Key, which opens the basement hatch.

Basement and murder scene

The basement contains a massacre involving duergar, Lolth-sworn drow, a mind flayer and a shattered earth elemental. A breach in the southern wall leads into a round cave containing a ritual circle and the body of Incontinentia Figgin.

These items are part of Find Dribbles the Clown. If the quest has not yet begun, party members instead comment on the discovery. A second drow corpse, Danfora of the Kingfish, carries another copy of the Sendai letter.

Lavernica’s Home named directory

Lavernica herself is not present in the house during the documented scene. The two named bodies are deceased and cannot be treated as living residents or ordinary dialogue NPCs.

Loot directory

The basement also contains minor random loot, alchemical herbs and several uncommon +1 weapons among the bodies. Most of the other corpses have unique names but no useful loot and cannot be questioned with Speak with Dead.

Loot directory

Items, treasure and collectibles

Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen

The specimen is associated with Manip Edenosa’s corpse after the ambush. It is a fixed event-related item rather than a random drop, but collecting it safely can require careful positioning because of the red outline and nearby witnesses.

Traveller’s Chests

Several Traveller’s Chests sit on the paved ground near the main entrance. They contain a mixture of:

The chests are red-outlined. One locked chest requires a DC 7 Sleight of Hand check. After the ambush, Flaming Fists may move closer to the waterfall, potentially making the main-entrance chests easier to loot without immediate observation.

Hidden treasure caches

The spell scrolls, gem and potion are randomised categories rather than fixed named items. These caches should therefore be treated separately from guaranteed quest loot.

Alchemical ingredients and camp supplies

Herbal and fungal alchemical ingredients can be gathered around the pond and waterfall without committing a crime. Camp Supplies on picnic blankets are red-outlined. Taking them is considered theft, despite their otherwise ordinary appearance.

The park and its immediate Lower City surroundings contain or display several pieces of written material. The documented directory is:

Some of these are general Lower City advertisements or notices rather than park-specific lore. They should not be interpreted as evidence that every named organisation or business operates inside the park.

Safe exploration before the ambush

  4. 04
Inspect the picnic grounds and collect freely available ingredients.
  5. 05
Search for the DC 10 and DC 20 Survival caches.
  6. 06

  9. 09
Return to the park and make a manual save.

Fighting the ambush

  1. 01
Ensure the party is healed and positioned before approaching the waterfall.
  2. 02
Use Turn-Based Mode if you want to control the timing of the approach.
  3. 03
Let the passive Perception checks resolve.
  4. 04
If the cultists are revealed, move through the flowerbeds or stairs.
  5. 05
Focus on enemies threatening civilians first.
  6. 06
Use crowd control, high ground and area denial to stop cultists reaching the paved area.
  7. 07
Check Manip Edenosa’s corpse after the fight for the Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen.
  8. 08
Take a Long Rest if you want to see the park’s post-ambush NPC state.

Progression changes

The documented sources do not establish a separate time-of-day gameplay system for the park. Lavernica’s notes say the park is open during the day and closed at night, but the practical game-state changes described above are tied to the ambush and Long Rest rather than a general day-night schedule.
