Key takeaways

  • The Storehouse is an Underdark location in Act One, not a Baldur’s Gate shop or a Lower City building.
  • Its practical boundaries include the Zhentarim warehouse, the nearby Minotaur Hills, and the route towards the Selûnite Outpost.
  • The warehouse itself has no named residents or neutral NPCs Its importance comes from loot, environmental clues and access to the north-eastern Underdark.
  • The approach is dangerous because of hidden Blast Mines, which can trigger a chain explosion, destroy the rope netting and alert nearby Minotaurs.
  • The locked heavy chest contains three Scrolls of False Life and two Scrolls of Speak with Dead.
  • The nearby armed Minotaur carries the Amulet of the Unworthy, an uncommon amulet that grants slashing resistance but bludgeoning vulnerability.

About this guide

Scope: Baldur’s Gate 3, base game, Act One Region: Underdark Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Underdark’s entrances, the Zhentarim connection, Minotaurs, the Bulette, hidden treasure and the Storehouse’s loot.

Overview

The Storehouse is a small but easily misunderstood location in the north-eastern Underdark. It is not merely a single warehouse interior. In the game’s location hierarchy, the name covers the Zhentarim storehouse itself, the adjacent open cavern commonly described as the Minotaur Hills, and the routes connecting this area with the Selûnite Outpost and the wider Underdark. Treating the Storehouse as only the room full of crates leaves out its traps, hostile patrols, buried chest, Myconid territory and possible Bulette encounter.

The warehouse is also one of the Underdark’s possible arrival points. Characters can reach it from the surface through the Zhentarim Hideout’s elevator, or arrive nearby by falling through the Whispering Depths. The two approaches are not equivalent: the elevator must first be unlocked from above, while the Whispering Depths route requires a way to survive the fall and places the party in the surrounding cavern rather than giving them a normal surface exit.

Location boundaries and hierarchy

The Storehouse within the Underdark

The Storehouse lies in the north-eastern quadrant of the Underdark. The Underdark itself is a large Act One region containing the Ebonlake Grotto, Selûnite Outpost, Arcane Tower, Grymforge, Decrepit Village, Dread Hollow and other named areas. The Storehouse is therefore a child location of the Underdark rather than an independent region.

The terrain around the building is unusually open and bright for the Underdark. The unnamed ground between the Storehouse and the Selûnite Outpost contains green grass, red mushrooms and winding paths. These scenic details are part of the Storehouse approach, but they should not be confused with the separate Selûnite Outpost location. The outpost is a distinct fortified area with its own entrance, magical defences and story material.

Included subareas

The Storehouse does not include the Selûnite Outpost, Ebonlake Grotto or Zhentarim Hideout. They are neighbouring or connected locations. The Zhentarim Hideout is on the surface side of the elevator route, while the Selûnite Outpost and Ebonlake Grotto are separate Underdark locations.

Access and routes

Route 1: Zhentarim Hideout elevator

The most direct route is through the Zhentarim Hideout. The hideout contains an elevator leading down to the far end of the Storehouse, but the elevator must be unlocked from the Underdark side before it becomes a reliable connection between the two areas. The Storehouse article describes the elevator as arriving at the warehouse’s far end, close to its storage containers and locked heavy chest.

This route is particularly useful because it provides a return path to the surface. If the party enters the Underdark by another method, the elevator cannot simply be used as an exit until it has been properly unlocked from above. Do not assume that reaching the elevator from below automatically makes the route functional in both directions.

Route 2: Whispering Depths

The Storehouse region can also be reached by jumping into the deep hole in the Whispering Depths. The landing point is around X: 140, Y: -150. A fall of this kind is normally fatal without an appropriate method such as Feather Fall. Reaching the Underdark in this way can grant the Abyss Jumper inspiration to characters with the Outlander background.

This route places the party in the open Minotaur Hills area rather than giving them a conventional entrance through the warehouse. It is therefore a poor choice for an unprepared party, but a useful alternative if the group is deliberately exploring every route into the Underdark.

Route 3: Selûnite Outpost

The Selûnite Outpost is another Underdark arrival point, reached from the surface through the Defiled Temple. From the outpost, the party can travel north-west towards the Minotaur Hills and Storehouse. Conversely, a party entering from the Storehouse can approach the outpost from the surrounding cavern.

The outpost’s moonstone defence is not part of the Storehouse. However, it affects the nearby Minotaur encounter. When a party approaches the raised portcullis, one Minotaur may charge the entrance and be destroyed by the outpost’s radiant magical defence. This is a separate outpost event, not a Storehouse combat reward.

Geography and exploration

The Storehouse is a contrast between an enclosed industrial space and a natural cavern. The warehouse is cramped and deliberately cluttered, while the exterior is characterised by open ground, rock shelves, mushroom caps and uneven routes.

A rope netting divides the warehouse side from the surrounding Underdark. The most obvious route across or through this boundary is trapped. The alternative is to use the terrain: rocky steps and giant mushroom caps allow characters to climb or jump around the obstruction. This makes movement abilities, high Strength, Feather Fall and careful party positioning useful even before combat begins.

The Storehouse region’s environmental layout supports several approaches:

The area can also produce a harmless earthquake-style event when the party approaches the Storehouse. It does not damage the party, but a random party member may comment on it.

Geography and exploration: steps

  1. 01
Careful trap disarming: Detect the mines, disarm them and pass through the rope-netting route.
  2. 02
Terrain traversal: Avoid the trapped ground by jumping across the nearby rocks and mushroom caps.
  3. 03
Stealth scouting: Send a high-Perception or high-mobility character forward to reveal the route and identify Minotaur patrols.
  4. 04
Combat baiting: Lure the Minotaurs into a disadvantageous position or towards the Bulette’s territory.

Factions and territorial boundaries

Zhentarim

The Storehouse bears the mark of the Zhentarim, the Black Network. Crates near X: 141, Y: -100 can be recognised as Zhentarim property when approaching from the Underdark. Companions may comment on the markings, with Astarion’s remark identifying the network as associated with spies, murderers and thieves. The observation is environmental and does not, by itself, create a new Storehouse quest.

The warehouse’s contents reinforce this connection. It is filled with storage containers, ammunition, alchemical materials, supplies and other goods rather than being furnished as a residence or functioning shop. The nearby surface-side Zhentarim Hideout is a separate location with its own guards, wolves, explosives and trader, including Brem. Do not merge Brem’s Store with the Storehouse: the former is an active vendor location in the hideout, while the latter is an abandoned or unattended storage area from the player’s perspective.

Myconids

Much of the open ground between the Storehouse and the barricades near the Selûnite Outpost is treated as territory belonging to the Myconids of Ebonlake Grotto. When the party enters this area, Rapport Spores can trigger an interaction with the “Cryptic Voice”, warning the party about the Minotaurs ahead. A successful Nature check can help a character identify the spores, but the party can still receive commentary regardless of the result.

This territorial effect does not turn the Storehouse into a Myconid settlement. Ebonlake Grotto remains a separate location with named Myconid characters including Spaw, Glut and Thulla. The Storehouse is better understood as land under Myconid influence rather than a settlement occupied by Myconids.

Residents, visitors and ordinary NPCs

No interactable neutral or allied NPCs are verified as living in the Storehouse or its immediate open cavern. This is important because the building’s Zhentarim markings might suggest that a merchant, guard captain or quest giver should be present. In the base game, there is no Storehouse shopkeeper and no resident Zhentarim dialogue hub.

Storehouse and Minotaur Hills

Faction-associated characters found nearby, but not residents

The names above should not be treated as a conventional local population. The Cryptic Voice is an environmental interaction, while Minotaurs and the Bulette are encounters.

Security, traps and hazards

Blast Mines

The most important hazard is the line of hidden Blast Mines at the foot of the rope netting. They can be revealed through passive Perception and should be handled before moving the entire party across the area. Triggering one can start a chain explosion, potentially destroying the rope netting and alerting nearby Minotaurs.

Blast Mines are environmental traps rather than ordinary enemies. Their explosions can also destroy nearby objects, containers and other useful scenery. General trap handling normally requires Perception to detect and Sleight of Hand to disarm, although the exact Storehouse detection results depend on the character’s bonuses and the game’s passive checks.

Minotaur patrols

The Storehouse itself is free of enemies, but the adjacent Minotaur Hills contain three wandering Minotaurs. They become hostile on sight. Minotaurs have strong leap attacks and can knock characters prone, making narrow ledges and elevated mushroom caps risky places to fight. Their Reckless Roar can give them advantage on attacks while also making them easier to hit.

The Minotaur approaching the Selûnite Outpost may die to the outpost’s moonstone defence. This can alter how many Minotaurs remain for the party to fight, depending on the party’s route and timing. It is not safe to assume that every listed Minotaur will necessarily become a normal combat encounter.

Bulette

A single Bulette roams the Underdark and can appear in the Storehouse’s surrounding territory, including the path from the Minotaur Hills down towards Ebonlake Grotto. It is not a fixed Storehouse boss and should be treated as a roaming encounter. Its appearance can be scripted around several Underdark locations, including points near X: 120, Y: -175 and X: 160, Y: -150.

The Bulette has the Territorial feature and may prioritise other monstrosities. This can be exploited by drawing it towards Minotaurs, allowing the creatures to weaken one another before the party joins the fight. The tactic is viable but dangerous: the Bulette has heavy armour, powerful leaps and, in Honour Mode, additional legendary-action behaviour associated with Diamond Scales.

Loot and collectibles

The Storehouse has a high quantity of low-value storage loot. The reward is spread across many containers rather than concentrated in a single treasure room.

General warehouse loot

Much of this material is ordinary or randomly selected container loot. It should not be presented as a fixed named inventory. The warehouse is worthwhile to search if the party is short on supplies, but it is not a major equipment-upgrade location.

Heavy chest

Near the elevator is a locked and trapped Heavy Chest. Its verified contents are:

The chest is both locked and trapped, so a character capable of handling locks and traps should open it. The Storehouse page does not provide a universal lock or trap DC in the supplied evidence, so the exact difficulty should not be treated as fixed here.

Buried chest

A buried chest lies near the Storehouse at approximately X: 140, Y: -120. Characters need to detect the dig spot and use a shovel or equivalent interaction to uncover it. The contents are not identified as a unique fixed item in the supplied location evidence, so it is best treated as additional treasure rather than a guaranteed named reward.

Amulet of the Unworthy

The armed Minotaur in the surrounding area carries the Amulet of the Unworthy. It is an uncommon amulet with the following unusual trade-off:

The amulet is useful for a character who frequently faces slashing attacks, but the vulnerability can be dangerous against clubs, mauls, hammers, falling objects and other bludgeoning sources. It is also tagged as an item Gale can consume for his Arcane Hunger progression, although using it for that purpose prevents the party from keeping it as equipment.

Route B: using the Bulette against the Minotaurs

This tactic is documented as a possible way to weaken the Minotaurs, but it is not a guaranteed scripted solution. The Bulette is a roaming encounter and may not appear at the exact moment or position expected.

Route A: safest general-purpose sweep

  1. 01
Enter through the Zhentarim elevator if possible. This gives the clearest connection to the surface.
  2. 02
Stop before the rope netting. Ungroup the party and let the character with the best Perception lead.
  3. 03
Detect the Blast Mines. Disarm them or take the rocky and mushroom-cap route around the trapped ground.
  4. 04
Search the warehouse systematically. Open the ordinary containers, but prioritise the locked heavy chest near the elevator.
  5. 05
Mark the warehouse location mentally. There is no confirmed Storehouse Waypoint.
  6. 06
Move into the Minotaur Hills cautiously. Use turn-based mode if patrols are close.
  7. 07
    Check the buried-chest location. Search around X: 140, Y: -120.
  8. 08
Decide whether to fight the Minotaurs immediately. If the party is under-levelled, stealth and terrain may be preferable.
  9. 09
Continue towards the Selûnite Outpost or Ebonlake Grotto. Keep the Storehouse separate from both named locations when recording discoveries.

Route B: using the Bulette against the Minotaurs

  1. 01
Keep most of the party hidden.
  2. 02
Use a mobile character to draw the Minotaurs towards the Bulette’s possible emergence area.
  3. 03
Avoid being caught between both groups.
  4. 04
Let the Bulette’s Territorial behaviour pull it into the fight.
  5. 05
Join from stealth only after the monsters have damaged one another.
  6. 06
Loot the armed Minotaur for the Amulet of the Unworthy.
  7. 07
Be ready for the Bulette to burrow away and return later.

Progression and missability

The Storehouse is not known from the supplied evidence to contain a mandatory quest trigger or a progression gate. Its importance is mainly exploratory:

Some content can change according to the party’s route:

There is no evidence here that leaving the Underdark, entering Act Two or completing a particular companion quest permanently removes the Storehouse’s ordinary loot. As with any location containing containers and roaming encounters, however, world-state changes, combat outcomes and destroyed scenery can affect what remains available.

The last two entries are an item and an inspiration event rather than characters or places. They are listed because they are distinctive named rewards associated with the area.

No Storehouse Waypoint is verified in the supplied evidence. The nearest regional waypoints include Selûnite Outpost and Myconid Colony, but both belong to the wider Underdark rather than the Storehouse itself.
